5-year Combined Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree (BAM) Pathways

The combined Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree (BAM) Pathways in Ethnic Studies and Education offers highly motivated students efficient pathways toward completing a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in a shorter time frame by double-counting course work (3 courses) at the undergraduate tuition rate. In most cases, students graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Ethnic Studies and a Master’s Degree in Education in 5 years (total).

ES BAM Program Details

The Department of Ethnic Studies offers two BAM opportunities:

1. BA in Ethnic Studies and MEd in Educational Foundations: For individuals who desire to make a positive impact on education policy, practice and research.
2. BA in Ethnic Studies and MEd in Educational Administration: Well suited for those interested in entry and mid-level administrative positions in higher education.

BAM Program Requirements

Students must apply at the beginning of their junior year or in the second to last year prior to completion of their undergraduate studies. Applications are submitted to UH Graduate Division which are then reviewed by the College of Education. Applicants must:

1. Have declared Ethnic Studies as an undergraduate major.
2. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
3. Have successfully completed ES 480 with a grade of B or better.
